Sleeping with the Spirits

Sleeping with the Spirits

After a long day of sightseeing, all you want is to tuck yourself into bed for a peaceful night’s rest. Imagine your surprise when that’s the last thing that happens and instead you encounter spooky apparitions and the paranormal. While you may find ghosts and spirits at any number of hotels throughout the country, there are some haunted hotels with unsettling accommodations. Are you curious enough and brave enough to sleep with the spirits at any of these infamous hotels?

Hotel Roosevelt

This historic hotel in Los Angeles, California, was first opened in 1927 and was the venue of the first Academy Awards. The hotel was known for being a favorite haunt of many movie stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood. In fact, it was the home of Marilyn Monroe for two years. These shining presences on the screen are still at home at the hotel as there are reported sightings of the spirits of Marilyn Monroe, Errol Flynn and Montgomery Cliff. Be sure to be on the lookout for mysterious cold spots and energy orbs that appear in photographs during your stay.

Stanley Hotel

Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Estes Park, Colorado, The Stanley Hotel is one of the most famous haunted hotels in the country and was the inspiration for Stephen King’s novel “The Shining”. Many of the hotel’s paranormal activities are reported in the ballroom. Ghosts have also been active in guest rooms. One ghost in particular is known for stealing valuables from the overnight guests.

La Fonda

Experience a taste of the southwest at La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This hotel is full of historic charm by day and paranormal experiences by night. Apparitions have been seen walking the hallways and disappearing through the floor of the dining room.

The Equinox

Watch the changing of the seasons in beautiful Manchester, Vermont, during your stay at The Equinox. While the foliage may be bright and beautiful, the hotel has a darker past that haunts its hallways in the present day. It is believed that the ghost of Mary Todd Lincoln is present in this hotel as it was where she was staying at the time of President Lincoln’s assassination. Both hotel staff and guests alike have reported feeling sudden chills or seeing full apparitions at the hotel.

Hotel Provincial

With equal parts interesting architecture, welcoming guest rooms and fabulous location near Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, Hotel Provincial is filled with French quarter charm and spirits. Built on the site of a Civil War Confederate Hospital, the hotel has countless reported sightings of soldier ghosts from the past. While some see a ghost figure, other hauntings include seeing an entire Civil War era hospital room in action for a fleeting moment.

Whether you’re planning a vacation to any of these scenic spots or you’re on the hunt for the paranormal, these historic hotels offer you a gracious place to sleep with the spirits.
